|
| Ideas for day II 1.Drive towards Jasper, turn south on highway 93 and drive south about 5 minutes until hit turn off for Mt Edith Cavell, it's a 30 min drive up the mtn to get there, gorgeous lake to the left just before the top, called Amethyst lake. Take any trail you like, regular one is 45 min walk, get down to a little lake and can listen to the ice crash into the lake as avalanches break off, sometimes in the distance as they are not visible. You can hear the mtns talk here!! Its called "calfing".You are not at risk here, don't climb up on glacier as you are at risk there. Can do the meadows walk if lots of time, lovely wildflowers there, like a Monet painting.Best for flowers in July. 2. Drive back to 93 highway and turn south to Athabasca falls, is only about another 15 minutes, lovely walks around the falls. 3. Valley of the Five Lakes is on your way back to Jasper, takes about 2hrs and is a pretty little walk and five little lakes all a different color. 4. Tramway is great ride up the mtn top, once on top can walk to the absolute top, its takes another hour. There is a teahouse there if need a good cold drink after. They have a lovely sunset dinner here. On a clear day can see as far away as Mt Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. 5. Pretty drive out to Pyramid and Patricia Lakes, nice walks out there, not too strenuous, good riding stables there as well. Restaurant at Pyramid Lake is very good.. Try it for lunch or dinner, tell them we sent you!!Try the spinach crepes. Can rent a canoe here if wish, very peaceful. If want to go for a swim go to the road to Jasper Park Lodge, turn in to Lake Annette, awesome sandy beach, glacier fed lake, no weeds, 45 min walk around the lake, very nice and is flat. Can swim at Patrica lake too!! 6. If want to eat at Overlander by me should call for a reservation, 866 2330 incase they are full. Can eat at hot springs or go into Hinton if don't want to stay in Jasper. There are numerous other hikes but since the average person only has about two days we have only done up a two days itinery. Lots of nice walks if extra time and if early to mid Aug may want to drive to Mt Robson to see the salmon run. |
